May/June Update

Posted by zkruger on May 30, 2012

Dear Parents,

We have an exciting last 7 days planned this year.  This Friday as a year-end reward the student’s chose to have a morning read-a-thon.  They are allowed to wear pajamas and bring a small blanket and/or pillow.  I encourage it be small enough to fit in a bag they could carry with them.  They may also bring a small snack to enjoy while reading (fruit snacks, bagged snacks, etc.).  This will be a blast!  I am also requesting anyone who would like to be a mystery reader that morning to email me.  I know some of you have been unable to join us, so if you could read that morning please email me and I will give you a time slot between 8:30-11.

Then on June 4th is the zoo trip.  Please remember a lunch, sunscreen, and something to drink.  This is always a fun day.  Please remember to also dress for the weather and have good walking shoes.  Then on June 6th is the awards day which begins at 1:00 with the “Leader of the Year” award.  This will be a busy few days, but lots of fun memories remain this year.  Let me know if you have any questions or can be a mystery reader this Friday.

Sincerely,

Mr. Kruger

April Update

Posted by zkruger on April 27, 2012

Parents,

We have had a busy couple of weeks.  Last week the students finished up the MCA Reading test.  They worked very hard and we will find out the results of these tests in late August (or earlier).  We also started our animal research projects this week.  We will be working on these over the next two weeks and presenting them in May.  These are fun projects and I always learn something new through their research.

We are taking the MCA Math tests a second time this Monday and Tuesday.  We will be taking part of it Monday and finishing the other half on Tuesday.  We will be able to take the best score from the two times we have taken these tests.  The results hopefully will be available within the week.

Please remember to return field trip forms and year book forms.  Also make sure to remind your child to keep working on their book reports.  They have two more due with the month of May.  Have a great weekend and please contact me with any questions.

Thanks,

Mr. Kruger

Update April 12th

Posted by zkruger on April 12, 2012

Welcome Back!

I hope everyone had a great Spring Break.  I just wanted to give you an update for next week.  We are taking our MCA reading tests next week.  We will be testing in the morning Tuesday through Friday.  We will be taking one section each day.  I want to encourage everyone if possible to be there next week, and to get a good night’s rest each day.  These tests are important and the students have been practicing this week some of the skills good test takers use to be successful.  We will also be taking our Unit 10 math test next week.  After this test we will be spending time reviewing for the 2nd round of the MCA math test which we will take April 30th

Also, please make sure to have your students either grab a paper homework copy from school or do 10 minutes on IXL.  This is part of their homework this trimester and is something they should be doing each night.  The other part of their homework is their nightly reading and three book reports.

Thanks for your help and let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks,

Mr. Kruger

Weekly Update-3-25-12

Posted by zkruger on March 25, 2012

Parents,

I just want to provide you an update on this last week before spring break.  Our main goals this week are:

  • I can interpret figurative language within poetry.
  • I can analyze traditional literature books and find elements in folk tales, fables, legends, tall tales, and fairy tales.
  • I can organize my research and create a presentation to share with others.
  • I can identify the main idea in a paragraph.
  • I can analyze data and find the mean, median, mode, maximum, and minimum.

Here are the things we are going to be working on this week.  Another highlight is that we are sharing our identity day projects from 10:05-11:05 on Friday.  Please continue working on those and you can begin sending them to school on Wednesday.  Also, please practice these IXL sections or MCA practice nightly for 10 minutes.  This is part of the student’s homework each night.  If you do not have computer access please let me know so I can send home practice pages instead.  Thanks and have a great week!

Mr. Kruger

Skype with Egypt

Posted by zkruger on March 6, 2012

Cairo is the biggest city in Africa.

The Nile river has been there for more than 1,000 years and gives life to Egypt. (plants, trees, and the desert)

They write and some people speak in Arabic.

108 pyramids in Egypt.

The Africans have been there for more than 6,000 years.

They do not eat pork.

Egypt is made up of about 1% water and 99% land.

They mummified cats.

They wear scarves around there head.

In ancient Egypt they used heiroglyphics.

They read Arabic from right to left.

They can be president for as long as they want.

Egyptians fought for freedom last year.

One god is Anubis.
